The first scholarship was awarded to Michelle Hemmer. Ms Hemmer
is a senior at Ferris State University and her major is
nursing. Presenting the award is Commander Vermeulen and Brett
Johnson. |
The second
winner of the scholarship is Matthew Newman. Mr. Newman is
a graduate student at Western Michigan University. His Masters
Degree is in Social Work and he hopes to tailor his future
practice to assisting veterans. An Iraq veteran, he was
awarded the Bronze Star. Presenting the scholarship is Gary Vermeulen - Commander, Larry Boven - Senior Vice Commander. |

The third scholarship was
awarded to Heath Tolliver. A Iraq veteran attending Michigan
State University majoring in nursing. Mr. Tolliver plans to
go into nursing. |
The
fourth scholarship was awarded to Jeremy Mitchell. A
Afgan veteran attending University of Michigan-Flint
majoring in education. Mr. Mitchell plans to become a
teacher. |

| The winner of
the Spring Semester Scholarship is Jered Miller. Jered is
veteran of the Navy and was stationed on a nuclear submarine. He
is attending Alpena Community College and his major is
Concrete Tech. |
|
Special
Scholarship Donation |
| The committee donated
to the Drew Russell Scholarship Fund. Captain Russell was a lifelong
resident of Scotts, MI and an graduate of the ROTC at Western
Michigan University. He was killed October 8, 2011 in Afghanistan.
His classmates have established a scholarship in his name at WMU.
